EC 24: Defrost Under-Heat
EC 24 means a later 600 Series freezer defrost ended with the coil still too cold. Frost that is not fully cleared builds up from one defrost to the next. Sub-Zero Repair Redmond checks the defrost heater and how the heater and evaporator sensor are mounted; call (425) 905-2822.

How it differs from EC 20
Both codes say the defrost did not warm the coil enough. EC 20 adds that the control also heard nothing back from the heater circuit when defrost began. EC 24 carries no such complaint, so the search stays on two things: the heater itself, and where the heater and the evaporator sensor sit on the coil.
Two checks, in order
Sub-Zero’s list is short. The technician reads the heater’s resistance and replaces a heater that fails. Then the heater and sensor are checked for position, because a shifted sensor or heater no longer reads or warms the part of the coil it was placed on.
Leave the frost where it is
The coil sits behind a panel inside the freezer. Prying or chipping ice off it risks puncturing refrigerant tubing, which turns a heater repair into a sealed-system one.
