EC 08: Freezer Evaporator Sensor Fault
EC 08 means the sensor on the freezer evaporator of a later 600 Series read open, shorted or erratic. It reports the coil, not the air, and the defrost checks lean on it. Sub-Zero Repair Redmond tests the sensor, its wiring and the way it is mounted; call (425) 905-2822.

A sensor on the coil, not in the air
The freezer on a later 600 Series has two sensors. The compartment sensor behind EC 07 reads the air the food sits in. The evaporator sensor behind EC 08 reads the coil itself, which runs far colder than the air and warms during defrost.
Why defrost comes into it
The freezer defrosts as needed rather than on a fixed clock. Sub-Zero’s lists for the defrost overheat and under-heat codes both check that this sensor and the defrost heater are mounted where they belong, so an EC 08 is often looked at with the defrost side in mind.
Leave the coil to the visit
The coil sits behind a panel inside the freezer. Taking that panel off, or chipping at frost on the coil, is technician work.
